# NCRERN Rural Research Network

## Overview

NCRERN seeks to work with state education agencies or regional agencies to create a rural research network. NCRERN provides technical assistance to rural research networks in selecting, piloting, and testing interventions using the [Proving Ground (PG) continuous improvement process](/ncrern-approach). This continuous improvement process creates a framework for partner districts to use data to understand challenges, identify potential solutions (interventions), design and plan discrete interventions, and use rapid-cycle evaluation to determine the effectiveness of and next steps for the interventions. NCRERN aims to give school leaders results with enough time to decide to scale up, revise and re-test, or discontinue the intervention for the following school year.

## Benefits

NCRERN’s rural research network creates a network of rural schools and districts within a state and/or region to go through our continuous improvement process together. Benefits of this include networking with rural school and district leaders that share similar goals, guidance and resources provided for how to implement evidence-based interventions, and rigorous evaluations that generate evidence of whether a solution worked and by how much so that rural education leaders can make informed decisions.

## Support

NCRERN engages with state education agencies and other local education-related organizations within a research network to gain context into the issues that are top priorities for partner rural schools. From there, NCRERN develops a catalog of evidence-based interventions that fit within the priority areas and can be implemented across network schools. NCRERN guides districts through various activities including a data diagnostic, root cause analysis, and impact-effort analysis to inform decisions on selecting interventions. Once a rural research network has selected the final intervention(s) that will be tested, districts receive resources and guidance to help launch and maintain the ongoing implementation of the intervention.
