May 19, 2023

As we head into the end of the 2022-23 school year, I want to look back at the many accomplishments of NCRERN’s district partners and staff this year.
**New York and Ohio Rural Research Network**
NCRERN started the year by bringing district partners together again in person for the first time in over 2.5 years for the 2022 Fall Regional Meetings in Ithaca, NY, and Athens, OH. Since then, our 35 district partners launched What’s Your Path, which aims to support 9th graders’ postsecondary readiness by helping them set goals and explore their strengths, interests, and postsecondary pathway options, and the Postsecondary Entry Checklists, which seeks to support 12th grade students identify and take the steps needed to transition to college, workforce, or the military.

Districts came together again virtually in February for a Mid-Implementation Meeting, where they learned from each other about promising practices to enhance or supplement their interventions, like Workforce Wednesdays or county-wide career fairs. Finally, 5 partner districts and their communities welcomed the NCRERN team for site visits to gain deeper insights into the implementation of this year’s interventions, their district and community context, and their postsecondary readiness priorities. NCRERN looks forward to sharing results and insights about this year’s interventions with district partners at our 2023 Fall Regional Meetings next October!

**LIFT Up Attendance**
NCRERN also officially launched its national replication network this year, which aims to bring promising strategies from our New York and Ohio to rural districts across the country. In fall 2023, NCRERN rolled out the LIFT Up Attendance program—a collaboration with Infinite Campus to implement personalized attendance messaging—as part of a national pilot study. We are grateful to this year’s inaugural pilot cohort for all their feedback, and we’re excited for Infinite Campus to release a new and improved version of LIFT Up Attendance this summer. NCRERN is actively recruiting additional rural districts to be part of our 2023-24 pilot cohort.

**NCRERN at National Conferences**
The NCRERN program and analytic teams were excited to have the chance to raise awareness of our work with our partner districts by presenting at several national conferences this year. At the Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management (APPAM) Fall 2022 conference and the Association for Education Finance and Policy (AEFP) 2023 Conference, the NCRERN team shared results of the impact of the personalized messaging intervention that serves as the basis for LIFT UP attendance. At the Society for Research on Educational Effectiveness Fall 2022 conference and the 2023 Carnegie Summit, we shared how NCRERN’s unique model creates a unique opportunity to bring together rural districts to collectively solve a problem while addressing previous challenges of conducting causal research in rural education settings.

**Rural Education Resources and Events**
Lastly, we’d like to showcase rural education resources that our team has gathered from a mental health webinar series NCRERN hosted, along with information about an upcoming Fall rural education conference, an opportunity for New York rural social studies educators, and new findings about the impact of COVID on student learning. We hope you will engage with NCRERN by visiting our [website](http://applewebdata/F7293B7D-BA8F-4BB8-846B-EE712ADF3373/website), [reaching out to us](mailto:NCRERN@gse.harvard.edu), or forwarding this newsletter to someone interested in rural education.

As this school year comes to a close, we are grateful for the amazing partnerships we’ve had with our districts.

Warm wishes,
Jenn
