NCRERN Newsletter: Fall 2022
We have several exciting updates to share this month, including highlights from NCRERN’s recent regional meetings, an introduction to our new Network Facilitators, and an overview of the two interventions our districts are piloting this year. We’re also pleased to share some additions to our website, which include the recent publication of our Improving Rural Attendance series and the newly launched research clearinghouse.
Fall Regional Meetings:
NCRERN held Fall Regional Meetings in Ithaca, NY (Sept. 27th & 28th) and in Athens, OH (Oct. 3rd & 4th). These meetings were our first in-person events since Winter 2020, and they were a great opportunity to connect with both old and new partners for the 2022-23 school year. During the events, districts reviewed results from the 2022 Senior Exit Survey and worked together to plan for the implementation of their postsecondary readiness and entry interventions. We were fortunate to be joined by guest speakers Dr. John Sipple and Kristie LeBeau from Cornell University and Dr. Sara Hartman from Ohio University, who shared resources about leveraging relationships with community organizations to help prepare rural students for postsecondary opportunities. We also want to thank Sherry McLaughlin and Abby Marcantonio from Connecticut RISE Network, who led workshops for our postsecondary entry districts about customizing the checklist intervention to align with existing supports and services.
Network Facilitators
NCRERN is excited to welcome seven network facilitators to our team this school year to provide strategic and technical support to districts in implementing their intervention. Facilitators will also collect implementation data from districts, which can be used to inform adjustments to practice and to help better understand the interventions. Our network facilitators bring a wealth of knowledge about postsecondary preparedness initiatives, especially in rural contexts.
The NCRERN team is looking forward to another great year working with our partner districts. They never fail to amaze us with the amazing work they do and their commitment to improving outcomes for their students. We hope you will engage with NCRERN by visiting our website, reaching out to us, or forwarding this newsletter to someone interested in rural education.
Warm wishes,
Jenn
